Google Bomb

G-Bomb!

Among all the other wonderful services provided by Google.com, a less known one is the ‘Google Bomb’.

Though its a hack still under research, experts have already been using it to ‘bomb’ various head of the states, countries, etc.!

Did you not hear the Bang! Bang! Well, read on….

The term ‘Google bombing’ refers to collective hyperlinking that influences results of a particular group of words (especially with the use of the “I’m Feeling Lucky” Button).

Enter the word ‘failure’ in Google search box and click on “I’m Feeling Lucky” >>> Prez Bush Bombed!

Sidhuism!

October 29, 2006

Here are some noteworthy remarks by the Indian Commentator – Navjot Singh Sidhu
1. That ball went so high it could have got an air hostess down with it.

2. There is light at the end of the tunnel for India, but it’s that of an incoming train which will run them over.

3. Experience is like a comb that life gives you when you are bald.

4. This quote was made after Ganguly called Dravid for a run and midway sent him back and Dravid was run out in the third test against the West Indies at Barbados.”Ganguly has thrown a drowning man both ends of the rope.”

5. Sri Lankan score is running like an Indian taximeter.

6. Statistics are like miniskirts, they reveal more than what they hide.

7. Wickets are like wives – you never know which way they will turn!

8. He is like Indian three-wheeler, which will suck a lot of diesel but cannot go beyond 30!

9. The Indians are going to beat the Kiwis! Let me tell you, my friend that the Kiwi is the only bird in the whole world, which does not have wings!

10. As uncomfortable as a bum on a porcupine.

11. The ball whizzes past like a bumble -bee and the Indians are in the sea.

12. The Indians are finding the gaps like a pin a haystack.

13. The pitch is as dead as a dodo.

14. Deep Dasgupta is as confused as a child is in a topless bar!

15. The way Indian wickets are falling reminds of the cycle stand at Rajendra Talkies in Patiala one falls and everything else falls!

16. Indian team without Sachin is like giving Kiss without a Squeeze.

17. You cannot make Omelets without breaking the eggs.

18. Deep Dasgupta is not a Wicket Keeper, he is a goalkeeper. He must be given a free transfer to Manchester United.

19. He will fight a rattlesnake and give it the first two bites too.

20. One, who doesn’t throw the dice, can never expect to score a six.

Not just fingerprints, even your Clickprint is Unique

October 21, 2006

It is now becoming apparent that a person’s pattern of web surfing behaviour over sessions is like an online fingerprint.

clickprintFirst, if you are wondering what a clickprint is, it is a unique pattern of websurfing behaviour based on actions such as number of pages viwed per per session, the number of minutes spent on each page, the time or day of the week the page is visited and so on.

In a paper by Professor B. Padmanabhan, at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Prof. Catherine Yang, of the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis, this is elaborated.

It says that by observing how people navigate around a site over a number of sessions, an e-commerce company could distinguish between two anonymous surfers. This could have important implications in preventing fraud: if someone signed in with an existing user’s logon, but their clickprint differed, that might be an indication that their ID has been stolen.

“Our main finding is that even trivial features in an internet session can distinguish users”, Padmanabhain told the Wharton review. “People do seem to have individual browsing behaviours .”

One for the Planet!

October 21, 2006

You don’t need me to tell you that the Global Envronment scene is bad and depressing. But just how bad is it? Where are the earthquakes, floods, forest fires and avian flu outbreaks happening right now?

To figure that, check out Alert Map

The alert map, put together by the Havaria Emergency and Disaster Information Services of Budapest, Hungary, uses tagging on Google Maps to help you picture Mother Earth’s plight.

A separate icon on a world map represents every disaster, including terrorist attacks or major road accidents. It’s a live service with an RSS feed.

The Power of (less than) 1 MB!

October 12, 2006

“All good things come in small packages” and “The most beautiful things in life usually come for free.” If these age-old-adages do not make any sense to you, its time you check out Download.com’s special collection titled -

Best Bang for the Byte

These are 10 Programs listed, all less than 1 MB and all being standalone applications that do one thing and do it best, without taxing your system. What’s even better is that they’re all free!

This is my personal favourite – GraphCalc

Description: Sometimes the Windows calculator in your Accessories panel isn’t enough. Sometimes you just need the cube root of 234.5 or a graph of x2 + sin(x3). This excellent freeware app covers all your mathematical needs, from simple arithmetic to complicated calculus.

Shutdown XP faster!

October 5, 2006

If you are one of the unfortunates whose Windows XP takes almost forever to shut down (lol…don feel left out…i assure you you are the majority lot!)…..then maybe you can try this…

When a user shuts down Windows XP, first the system has to kill all services currently running. Every once in a while a service does not shut down instantly and Windows gives it a chance to shut down on its own before it kills it.

This amount of time that Windows waits is stored in the system registry. If you modify this setting, then windows will kill the service earlier. To modify the setting, follow the directions below:

  • CLick on Start>>Run and type Regedit and hit Ok.
  • On the left, Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
  • Click on the “Control” Folder.
  • On the Right, Select “WaitToKillServiceTimeout”
Right click on it and select Modify.
  • Set it a value lower than 2000.
