Interestingly useful Cell fone info!

August 27, 2006

fonesmileyI received this very interesting Forward the other day. It contained three useful tips, the first of which worked well. I am yet to try the other two.

If you do, let me know as well.

Here they are:

1. Emergency number: The Worldwide Emergency Number  for Mobiles is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number.

What’s interesting is that the number 112 can be dialed even while the keypad is locked.

2. Locked the keys in the car? Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys(remote) are home, call someone on your cell phone. Hold your cell phone Read the rest of this entry »

Search google.com – not google.(your country’s extenstion)

August 24, 2006

When we type www.google.com we are actually re-directed to www.google.(our country’s dot extension).

Just in case you want to avoid this just add an extra /ncr to the google.com URL.

e.g.

In India, when  http://www.google.com/ is opened,
the browser is redirected to http://www.google.co.in/

To directly go to Google’s worldwide search, all you have to attach is an additional “/ncr”  like: http://www.google.com/ncr

This will open Google.com

A nice High Tech joke!

August 20, 2006

DADDY! HOW WAS I BORN?” Junior asks his dad, His dad, who is a software engineer sighs and replies, “Ah, my son, I guess one day you would have to find out anyway!”

“Well, I saw your Mom and we first got together in a chat room on MSN. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, but it was too late to hit the delete button.”

“Six weeks later your mom sent me an instant message saying that her operating system was showing signs of unauthorized program activity from a self extracting file which had implanted in her BIOS.

Then nine months later a little Pop-Up appeared and said:
.
.
.
.
.
.
You’ve Got Male’!”

Copy Paste alert!

August 13, 2006

This is for all those who are still not aware. The Copy-paste tracker is still out there. We all do copy various data by highlight and pressing Ctrl+C for pasting elsewhere.

This copied data is stored in clipboard and surprisingly, is accessible from the net by a combination of JavaScript and ASP.

Just try this

  1. Copy any text on to the clipboard (by selecting the text >> right click >> Copy or by pressing Ctrl+C).
  2. Click here
  3. You will see the text you copied on the page which was accessed by this web page.

Do not keep sensitive data Read the rest of this entry »

Bush Bashing!

August 13, 2006

Well everyone’s been doing this, so let me also post some Bush bashing stuff! This particular joke really got me rofl!!

Donald Rumsfeld briefed President Bush this morning. He told the President that 3 Brazilian soldiers had been killed in Iraq. To everyone’s amazement, all of the colour ran from President Bush’s face, then he collapsed on his desk, head in hands, visibly shaken, almost whimpering. Finally he composed himself and asked Rumsfeld, “Just exactly how many is a brazillion? lol

The technology behind Google’s great results!

August 13, 2006

So, what do you think must be the technology behind Google’s fast and still absolutely accurate results?

A great dedicated server? An array of employees working to sort the relevant sites and putting them first in your search results?

No..none of it! The heart of Google’s search technology is PigeonRank™ and it actually uses trained pigeons to pick up useful sites and separate them from the useless ones.

Don’t believe me…see this…

Still not convinced? Well read about it on Google’s site itself. They’ve explained the whole process very nicely.
